Managing
Talent in a Bear Market
London
Stock Exchange
7th October 2008
(Add to calendar now)
When
the economic downturn currently impacting the Financial Services sector
spreads into the wider economy, many more companies will begin to suffer.
Growth plans will become unachievable and management will instead turn
their focus simply towards weathering the storm and surviving until the
upturn comes. Business plans will have to be reworked to reflect more
difficult trading conditions. And when trading conditions deteriorate,
the true strengths and weaknesses of company business models become apparent.
Highly leveraged private equity backed businesses will be vulnerable,
but so to will be the whole spectrum of publicly and privately owned corporations.
Some
private equity firms specialise in turnaround situations, managing businesses
through critical periods where survival is not guaranteed. What can be
learnt by mainstream businesses from the recovery strategies they implement?
How does the recent focus amongst Talent Managers on nurturing, personal
development and lifestyle issues fit with an environment in which many
employees will simply be relieved still to have a job?
The aim of this event is to offer a practical insight into how to steer
your people through the change that is needed and to provide practical
advice to HR professionals who haven't experienced a real bear market
before. It will also cover the legal restrictions applying to any form
of restructuring, how to maintain morale and the talent you desperately
need to keep in order to profit in the upturn and when you might need
to consider bringing in outside help to make these changes.
